When the GORE-TEX Kahtoola Uphill began in 2007, it was nothing more than a handful of friends who were inspired to climb a mountain, have some fun, and embrace human-powered movement and activity. Back then there were 25 people charging up Arizona Snowbowl.

Thirteen years later, the tiny uphill gathering has not only transformed into a popular and wildly entertaining community celebration, but a fundraiser for nonprofit Friends of Camp Colton. Each year since 2009, 100% of profits have gone into a scholarship that allows low-income elementary students to attend Camp Colton, a local environmental youth education center tucked in the ponderosa pines of Hart Prairie just below where the race takes place on the San Francisco Peaks.

In 2020, we had our most successful race to date. We sold out at 350 racers, raised just north of $52,000 in support of camp, and eclipsed the $400,000 mark since taking to the mountain all those years ago. And most importantly, we’ve helped get countless kids outside and immersed them in the power of nature.

Big thanks to Arizona Snowbowl for hosting; our title sponsor, GORE-TEX Brand; race sponsors, Lumberyard Brewing Company and Flagstaff Nissan Subaru; K2 Adventures and all of the Kahtoola Uphill event sponsors, volunteers, supporters and the local Flagstaff community for making this year’s race our biggest and best yet!

Here’s to an even better race in 2021! Until then, enjoy the cool short video below from Firewatch Media and photos from this year’s race at KahtoolaUphill.com.
